CPL, CPA or CPS: choosing the right payout model
The payout model decides who carries the risk, which publishers you attract and how fast you can scale.
CPL (cost per lead) pays for a registration or form submission. It works well for finance, insurance, telco and other products with a longer sales cycle, where a qualified lead has clear value to your sales team.
CPA (cost per acquisition) pays when a user takes a defined action, such as a first deposit or a paid subscription. The advertiser carries less risk, but publishers expect a higher payout to compensate for lower conversion rates.
CPS (cost per sale) pays a percentage of revenue and is common in e-commerce, travel and subscriptions. It aligns publisher income directly with order value.
Many campaigns combine models. A hybrid deal, such as a small CPL plus a CPA on conversion, can help you attract volume while keeping quality under control.
